EOTNs: playing with 120 eyeshadow palette

If anybody asks, i didn't study... one look with the palette and i couldn't resist not playing. I'm being such a child i know. But plase don't tell mommy. :)

This first look was inspired by the cluster of shimmery blue and purples on my palette. i used 4 colors that are close to each other and worked it from there. :)

geisha-ing pose.. :)

I used a sponge tip to pack on the colors. I barely needed to blend. but from the looks of it, i should have. :) but the colors showed really well. I love it!! this will be a major reason why i shouldn't buy more makeup. :)

Anybody wants some reggae?

I was originallly going to do a tropical look but i don't know where i went wrong... like i took another road or something. So, i think this look ended up looking a bit RASTA without me intentionally making it.

I did the wing-look since i figured this is a great time to practice. I think i need desperately need a better eyeliner brush.

Hope you had fun with these looks. :)

Tutorial: Really Black Smokey Eyes

I finally swallowed my pride and made my very first picture tutorial. :) Since we are all in awe of the Popular Smokey Look, I thought why not? I used my 120 eyeshadow palette. I'm loving how pigmented the colors are. :)

I found these the easiest steps (albeit messy) in achieving the Smokey Look. This tutorial was inspired by Temptalia.com's Smokey Tutorial. :) Thanks!

Let's start:

1. Apply an eyebase all over lid to browbone (Mac Paint Pot in Painterly = Cream Concealer/Elianto Eyebase)

2. Apply cream black eye color up to just the crease (Careline Glamour Eyes = MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack)
This will make your black eyeshadow POP!

3. Apply any matte black eyeshadow all over lid. You will definitely get messy here so prepare cotton buds dipped in makeup remover, tissue or facial wipes. (I used my black e/s from 120 Palette)

4. Apply A shimmery dark grey eyeshadow to give it a little sparkle. Blend it towards the outer crease and upwards to just above crease.

5. Apply any shimmery white to highlight browbone and BLEND OUT harsh lines.
KEYWORD: Blend! Blend! Blend!

6. Tightline upper and lower lashline with any black eyeliner pencil. This helps provide a more dramatic look in my opinion.

7. Apply any black mascara liberally. (optional) Apply false eyelashes for fuller smokey dramatic effect.

THE RESULT

NYX Round Lipstick Strawberry Milk
NYX Megashin Lipgloss in Natural

(click specific photo to enlarge, beware of my open pores.. harharhar!)

my suggestion: If you don't have any of the colors mentioned above,
you can purchase the ELF Brightening Eye Color Palette in Drama
for only about Php124 or so.

'Hope this helps!

So, how was my first tutorial?
Would you like more?

I'd appreciate your feedback

I don't do them often since I've been blogging and busy in school.

Haul: MAC FIX+ + Cool Heat FOTD

Finally, after a long wait(because the Post Office of our country or the country we ordered from are either incompetent or lazy) I've got my very own MAC Fix+. Yey!

When Mhean of Moi<3makeup messaged me that our 1st MAC pre-order finally arrived, i found ways to accumulate "funds" to get it. It was not a good time since my Credit Card bill was due as well. Bummer! Bummer! My CC Bill was a whopping Php7K. I know! It was mostly food tripping, online shopping and my Beauty Bar loot. Thankfully, God made way for me to pay for all of it and even extra for a little shopping for school clothes.. :) THANK YOU!!

Yesterday, i was told that there was a post on the B.Board that Dean R won't hold classes for his Civ. Pro. class (that's us!!!). Yahoo! So, i contacted Mhean and made plans to meet her. :) Fourtunately, she'll be going to the office.

I waited for Mhean at Seattle's Best coffee where there is this cute guy i checked out. Hihi!! What? I'm human! :) He's cute and buff (really toned IMO). I know he's eyeing me too but i sat on the couch behind him so he couldn't see me more (too bad for him!) LOL! Since i was behind him and him wearing a really tight white shirt, i saw his boxer brief!! Total turn off IMO! Had he not worn those i would would've probably seen his "smileys". le sigh!

Mhean arrived after her work in a casual attire with reddish eye look that looks great with her cute MNG top. :) Even in her casual clothes, Mhean can work it! :) I also got to meet Mafie of Flair for Fancy when Mhean and I met up with her @ Ministop Convenience Store. :) Glad to have seen you girls again. Too bad we didn't have more time to have quick dinner and chat... again! :) Surely, next time we will! :)

Here's a better "guy" to check out. :) (woot! woot!)

I've been lemming for this one since I saw Enkore's in depth video review of this product afew months back (i know!!). Then continuously seeing it on beauty bloggers and video review. Sue me! I'm a hoarder! :) Hope that it won't make my skin oilier than it is already. But if it did, at least i can use this to my future "Clients". Yihee!!

-oOo-

I finally got to use my Gulf Stream eyeshadow from MAC's Cool Heat Collection. It's almost similar to my temptress multipurpose mineral from Ellana but on the lighter side. I really like it. :) I can't wait to use it again. :) I also use the Emerald Green Pigment sample i got from Chloe. :) Love it!

Phew! I'v never used so much MAC in one FOTD. :) I was tempted to use my Studio Fix NC30 but i was scared that it will aggravate my already pimple-flaring face. Thank God, i didn't give in. :)

I shopped for two shirt dresses @ Girlshoppe. I suddenly have renewed love for this boutique after having most of the clothes i am looking for. :) I will post them next time as my cam ran out of battery. :)

til next time!

Smashbox Master's Class Vol. 2

Finally i get to try the Smashbox Eyelights Palette that came with Master's Class Vol. 2. I've been putting it off since i like seeing how brand new it is still. That's how i am when i really like something.

If you need something subtle to give you the no makeup look and easy to apply, get this one. I love how pigmented the colors are. The palette contains three beautiful neutral shade. The first is for the highlight and may be used for the face and innerlid. The next is for the color, a velvety coral shade that can be applied on the outer lid or inner lid. The next is for defining the crease of the eye, dark brown with subtle copper flecks. The palette has shimmer but subtle enough to wear day or night. Since this package came with their No. 26 Eyeshadow Brush, the application became a lot easier. It picks up the pigments effortlessly.

The Bronzer/Blush Duo isn't so bad either. I love how the cream blush glides on to my cheeks withe my Lumiere F.O. Brush. The Bronzer was magic to work with to give me a tanned look and contour to boot. :)

The eyeliner in Dark brown is a dear to use. Not to soft and not so hard to work with it. Definitely earns an A++ from me. I've used this on several occasion and it never failed me.

The Lip Brilliance-Perfect Pout will certainly give you just that. :) it has 3 shades, light coral, deep red orange and peachy lipglosses. It will enhance any lipsticks you put on and great to use alone.

So, do i recommend this Set?
For those who are just starting with their makeup collection, yes! It is a versatile eyeshadow palette to create a prime look to subtle smokey brown eyes. For those who are in the mid-expert, you'll probably see the same colors sitting on your stash or used frequently. The expert would probably have several colors of these already. But really, this is a great gift item for the newbie and expert alike. Which is also great for traveling with its cute compact packaging. You'll have everything you need for a vacation our out of town wedding. :)

Buying this set would probably save almost 50 to 60% compared to buying them individually. So yes, this is a great haul for anyone.

The downside of this will be the baby buki brush that sheds like crazy and not as soft to the baby buki i was used to. I guess, getting it for a lower price with have its bad side too.

The Popular and pretty expensive Photo Finish Primer didn't work its magic on my oil mine face. Maybe i should have applied more, i don't know. But twice i have used this and failed me. As they say, third time is the charm so wish me luck.

Kikay Pinay gives this product 3.5 out of 5 Kikay Pinay Points.

Movie Review: Dark Knight

My heart never stopped racing from beginning to end of this film. This movie made a lot of horror movies I know looked like child’s play.

Chris Nolan brings you a phenomenal Batman Movie with Dark Knight. This is an installment that will not let you down. This makes, as frequently spoken of, the best Batman movie EVER! I am lost for words on how great it is. The movie, in my opinion, effectively portrays the chaos that is our world. And that our choices make a ripple of events.

Christian Bale played Batman like a dream, strong and weak all at the same time. A true dark knight. Here we will see Batman for what he is, human like us and not just a Super Hero.

From beginning to end, this movie will make you face your fears, the decisions you are afraid to make and the dreams you want to fulfill. Joker will make fun it; he will do nasty things to pull you down. He is a mad dog bent on destruction. He will take you to a dark and evil place. He is after all, has nothing to lose unlike the rest of us. Stellar performance, Heath Ledger. Wherever you may be.

Aaron Eckhart, who played Harvey Dent aka Two Face, managed to inspire sympathy and loathing from me. He will make it easier to gravitate to evilness had he not been innately a true hero as the once District Attorney and dreams of a future with Rachel (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal).

With the continuously heightening action scenes, special effects and great film strategy will definitely keep you on your toes and secretly wanting it not to end. I don’t a lot about how a movie is made but this one specially impressed me.

This is not a movie for little kids, if you asked me, despite the PG 13 rating it is given. Nonetheless, the kiddos will definitely love this.

The boyfriend will have a wonderful time with this movie. Especially if its your treat. :)

much love,

Movie Review: Mama Mia

thank you Yahoo! Movies for the poster

I'm not the last one to watch this right?

I just watched MAMA MIA. And boy is it a good one for me... For those who have a very close relationship with their mother can definitely relate to this film... or for those who doesn't have any idea who their father is.

Why did i enjoy it?

First, it is a famous broadway musical based on a few chosen songs of ABBA, my favorite band when i was young-er and still constantly sings on karaoke (Who doesn't?). Two of my fave are Dancing Queen and Gimme Gimme Gimme which was given a highlight in this movie musical. I just love love them. If the plot sucked, i would have loved it anyway just because of the music. And who knew Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan(Yes! Pierce Brosnan!) can sing?

Second, the movie was about finding yourself and usually that only leads you back to your mother's nurturing arms telling you are truly perfect and not just because you are her daughter. Donna, played by Meryl Streep, was a flowerchild-feminist who have been a bit promiscious during her younger days that she has no idea who the father of her daughter Sophie(played by Amanda Seyfried) truly is. It could be Sam(Pierce Brosnan), Bill(Stellan Scarsgard) or Harry(Colin Firth). And i thought my family was crazy! Phew!

As a child, brought up practically by a single parent, i admire the character of Meryl Streep who braved motherhood and chose to raise a child on her own. I specially love the part wherein she said that despite the lack of choices she had, she can't regret anything for a having a child like Sophie. After all confusion, Donna and Sophie finally found her happily ever after... just not the way we expected.

And that love conquers all... doesn't it always?

Lastly, the happy giddy ala High School Musical dancing and singing just makes you wanna sing-a-long to the movie while swaying your butt. Really, i was belching Dancing Queen, Fernando and Take a chance on me while i was watching! Who wouldn't, after all the karaoke practice i'm sure we already memorized the lyrics to ABBA songs.

This movie left me hopeful, not only for me but also for my mother who has been going through a lot lately. And to all those women who thinks they can't feel young again.

This movie earned 4 out of 5 Kikay Pinay Points.

4 because i wasn't really that too keen on their dance steps... and i found some parts over way too cheesy for me. And this movie also reminds me of Filipino love/comedy movies where there is always a song and dance number on the beach! You know what i'm talking about!

Have fun!!

much love,

MAC Expensive Pink + T123 my 120 Palette

I received today my MAC Neo-sci Expensive Pink! :) Thanks, Sophie! :)

I couldn't text because i was so busy the whole day... watching ONE TREE HILL online. Grabe!! The latest season was just... pain and laughter combined. Kakakilig! Made me think and re-think of a lot of stuff. I couldn't stop watching! Thank God my computer and internet provider was cooperating. Sigh! Lucas Scott reminds me of an old version of myself...

Enough about that. I'm quite ecstatic about the color! I love it! But the mudra(my mother) said, "di naman pink yan eh!" (that's not pink!). I replied, "Kaya nga expensive pink eh ang name eh." (that's why it's named expensive pink). Duh!

Dear Sophie also gave a sample of Monave's Glow Illumizer. I don't have the picture yet coz it's in bed... I'm not sure where exactly but i'll find it. :)

-oOo-

I tried out my 120 Eyeshadow Palette today. I tested mainly the violets, pinks and one of the blues. It is really pigmented. I used my Too faced Shadow Insurance as based and the blending isn't that tough. But i think screwed up blending on this one. I didn't bother applying it wet coz i was watching the television and was doing makeup in bed. Darn, lazy me.

Anyhoot, I love the colors! i can't wait to create more looks with it. :) But as always, i stick to my faves on my road test. :)

Do you have Good Posture?

now here's a guy who knows good posture

If yes, then all is well with you. If no, read away. :)

In this day and age, spending time on the computer is a lifestyle but it has its share of downside as well. We owe it to ourselves to take care of our body.

Today, we will see to our posture.

The story:
My bad love affair with bad posture started when I started growing breast. I started showing as early as 5th grade. My body (if not my height), matured rapidly. I was proud of it. However , i was teased as "Betty Boobs" in sixth grade that i started to draw back from being proud of my new developments. That, i think, is the day i started to slouch to avoid my breast showing. It is also contributory that my body frame could not cope with my breasts that i just started to slouch for comfort. It did not help when i started to spend more time online instead of outdoors.

Results of Bad Posture:
1. Excessive strain on our postural musles
2. Appearance of lack of self-confidence
3. Tiresome appearance
4. Shallow breathing
5. Energy not properly flowing in your body

If you are not a kid and always told to sit up straight, that means you have a posture problem.

Can we correct our bad posture? YES.

Here's a a few tips i picked up along my journey in improving my posture:

  • Pick a good chair that will fit your bodyframe. (Small chair for petite person(ehem!), Big chair for tall persons)
  • Sit up straight. (this grade school mantra is still a great practice. pretend to be your terror homeroom teacher.)
  • Align your ears, shoulder and hips in vertical line. Avoid crossing legs (this is hard, my legs are crossed just now)
  • When sitting, make sure to sit your back against the chair with your knees at hip level. petite girls like me can use a foot stool to maintain this)
  • Avoiding sitting or standing for prolonged period of time - stretch out every 20 or 30 minutes.
  • Minimize wearing high heeled shoes for long period of time.
  • Exercise and concentrate on strengthening your back and shoulders.
  • Practice and patience helps - we have been remissed so we have to suffer.
  • Tell a friend of this problem and ask them to remind you if you are slouching.
  • Be conscious of your posture - be your own drill sergeant.
  • Take proper food and supplements.

This will take time and will surely pay off to give you that glorious posture. But if this persist, consult your doctor in other ways in improving your posture. Especially if you experience back, neck or shoulder pains regularly.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

I've got to stretch my back now.

much love,

Answering Q's about my Cherryculture Haul :)

For those wondering, I didn't pay for shipping because of the Free Shipping to US addresses for $40 above purchase promo on both of my orders. And I had it shipped to Hawaii, at my Godmother's place. Since, my other Aunt is arriving earlier, she brought it with her instead. Hence, i received it way before August. :)

I also wouldn't know if there will be additional payment (like tax) if you claim your package at your local Post Office, but so far I haven't paid any when i claim package. Although there are stories in which some fellow makeup enthusiast had to pay the extra for tax aside from the P35 or above charge every pick up. But i think this only happens if your package is boxed, I'm really not sure. I do hope i don't experience that in the future.

It helps to wait before ordering. Ask if you have relatives visiting soon to save on shipping. the box is pretty small, i'm sure they wouldn't mind. Or you can ask them to take your items from the box since it is bubblewrapped. Just make sure it is secure from breaking, especially if you are ordering eyeshadows. Ask them to kepp it where it won't be shaken like their luggage where they keep their clothes. Or even ask an online friend whom you trust to send it to you in an envelope. It pays to ask friends who have ordered who have not experienced additional tax and have them shipped at their place instead of yours.

Overall, buying online is really risky. Especially, if some people who works in the PO's of our cities aren't that trustworthy. I've had my share of lost packages. But we just have to take the good with the bad.

Hope this helps.

much love,

120 Eyeshadow Palette and Eyelashes Haul from HK

You can't believe how hard it is to get up from bed today. It was raining hard, the weather is cool and i didn't even have my A/C on.. With my bed having fresh sheet and smelling quite good, it would have been a trial getting up. However, when i received a phone call from my beloved City post Office i quickly got up and got dressed to claim my package (hihi! I sneaked about 5 to 10 minute snooze).

I was even late for class but I didn't care. I wanted to claim it so badly. So even if i couldn't open it up in school, i waited patiently. It paid off coz 30 minutes before the end of class, there was an announcement that the ALL Classes are Suspended due to the storm! I immediately hailed a cab and headed straight home! yey me!

Most of us missed out on the May 29th release of the CS 88 eyeshadow palette. While some just can't give in to the expensive shipping ($40.40 for the palette and shipping to Manila). Some even had qualms since there are reviews that some pans arrived broken... what did Kikay Pinay do? Like the Princess of Cheap that I am, I searched for the Alternative. I wanted one with just the blushes. But lo and behold, type palette on Ebay search bar and you'll get a lot of hits! Of course, i didn't order immediately. I researched and researched (blogs and youtube) and then i also asked the people on their feedbacks.

Finally, i decided to get one after knowing and seeing palettes from Inan, iloveMAC and a few positive replies i received from buyers of the seller... I GAVE IN. I ordered this 120 Eyeshadow Palette from CHICGALLERY who i think owns a lot of accounts in ebay (when i saw Gracie's 120 palette). I also included 10 false eyelashes with a free glue.

it took 2 weeks to arrive from a country that is about 1 and a half hour away from the Philippines.. i don't know who's fault or "process" it is, but it sucks.

CHICGALLERY owner is accomodating. Despite my numerous questions, i was patiently replied to. I am also informed when my items were shipped.
I know it is very risky to bid/buy from ebay but (knock on wood), i can say that this is yet another successful purchase journey for me.

I'll give CHICGALLERY 5 Kikay Pinay Points for smooth transaction.

DISCLAIMER:
This is only my experience. I am not in anyway advertising this product or seller. I cannot vouch for the smoothness of transaction at your end.Although i do wish we will share the same experience.I highly advise thorough research of the seller you wish to buy from not only base on their feedbacks but actually asking their successful customers since I have encountered some news in the past of sellers fabricating their positive feedbacks.
WHEN IN DOUBT, DON'T SHOP.

Package is very well packed. No broken items or cracked pan.
120 Eyeshadow Palette - $23.98
10pcs. false eyelashes - $9.58

I paid only $30.56

I think it's a lot cheaper last time i checked their site, like $10.00 for the 120 Pallete.

with free brush set same as those sold in Quiapo and Divisoria.
Thanks for the freebie!
At the back of the palette it also says:
Limit to use the period: Please use before 2011 january
NET: 144g

no more reason to shop! it's all here (at least most of the colors).

There are colors that are matte, shimmery and even marbleized. There are just tons of colors to choose from. You'll get lost just by looking. it's arranged according to their shades. Very very pretty.. :) Some are not as pigmented while other are bursting with colors. Remedy is to use an eyebase. :) Don't expect a MAC alternative, ladies. this is not comparable to the HG MAC or even my HG Mineral Multipurpose Powder. But it will do. :) Looks a lot like the BAXI and Quianyu eyeshadows sold in Quiapo and Divisoria. Too Bad, they don't have the exact pallete. I'd like to compare this to the CS pallete but i don't have that. Maybe when we have a makeup party, you can bring your CS palette and we can compare.

Look at that marbleized eyeshadow. not like MAC but at least you get a partial experience. :)

tons of eyelashes and free glue.

Since they are all the same, i will be giving some of them to my MUA friends when we meet up again. this is pretty cheap, especially for Makeup artists and those who enjoys creative eye looks. I like that the glue is clear and not visible like my other eyelash glue.

swatches, no base.
the orange is from the marbleized shadow.

I can't wait to play with these babies but after swatching, but the cold weather just lulled me to go to bed and catch some Zzzz.. maybe tomorrow?

NYX Haul Swatches (PIC HEAVY. hope this helps)

The rainy days is lowering my spirit. I just want to curl up at in bed and sleep... haiii...

But of course, i can't help not showing you the swatches to help you decide whether to get the same shades or opt for a different one. I have watermarked and personalized my photos to discourage stealing of photos. It's really tedious to make swatches so i'm guarding them like a project to be passed! :) lol!

I tried to be generous with the swatches for your conenience.

ALL PHOTOS of SWATCHES TAKEN IN NATURAL LIGHT (outdoor, a bit cloudy)
PRODUCT PHOTOS ARE TAKEN INDOORS UNDER FLOURESCENT LAMP (to show color better)

My fave so far is Perfect and Indian Pink
Jumbo Lip Pencils:
same as Round Lipstick
but stays longer

Lipglosses:
One of the best i've tried so far
Easy to apply
Can be worn alone because is it also very pigmented.
